Recent posts looked at the careers and
similarities of 5 of the top IM experts. They started their businesses from
1998-2007. As the internet only started in 1993, they were pioneers of IM,
by today’s standards.
All of them stress the need for a list
of prospects/buyers. Some had built all their business
on Google, or Facebook, only to
find their business
crushed by rule changes by those
companies (which wanted rid of what they were offering, such as ‘get rich quick’ style offers). They had to restart and will tell you
that, with a list, you will always be able to continue (even with disruption). They built up multiple income streams:
product creation, affiliate (agent) sales, training, consultancy and so on to increase earnings,
as we all should do, when
opportunities come.
Michael Cheney and Omar Martin
(see below) stress the need to sell, sell, sell, having identified a number of IM folks focus only on collecting products, or wasting time on social media in jealous outbursts, rather than maximizing income. Michael admits to regularly buying
products, but only to sell more.
If you are not going to sell, IM
is still not for you (unless you
outsource selling).
Meetings with fellow IM folks are
easier today, as there are more of them and more meetings arranged. These can be a great help when
running your business alone. Whilst I have not attended these,
few are in Moscow, Skype enables me to contact these five and others and email provides swift replies, when I need them. Support is often contracted out
today. I know of support in the Philippines for a US IM expert and in Canada for the UK. There is no
time delay, often it is faster and
the service is first class.
