The short version of this is:
Are you using a website platform, not a file sharing hosting platform? If you are there are limits to what you can do, even with a modest site.
Longer version:
I signed up for a year’s subscription to Wealthy Affiliate (WA) earlier this year, recommended by Devon Brown, if I remember correctly. This was just before I started my course with John Thornhill.
Service was good, helpful and swift and I quickly set up two sites, one for my academic books free distribution:
www.profmoscow.site
This was designed for me and has run very well.
www.robinjoyce.site
This was set up for internet marketing and for me to build as I followed John’s course.
All went well until I attempted to install Jetpack, following the course. This was blocked. The official reason is given as:
‘Which plugins are you actually wanting to use out of the Jetpack? Jay only uses the Stats and Contact Form.
The problem with the Jetpack is that it connects out to WordPress on every single visit. That’s how the stats work. This not only can slow your site down, it requires WordPress servers to be running optimally. If WordPress servers had trouble connecting with your site, then your site would come to a screeching halt.
One “rule of thumb” that we like to work by is that any plugin that connects to another website is potentially harmful. Your site now relies on that external website to function.
Google Analytics is what we suggest for tracking, and there are many different contact forms that you can use out there.
There is a bunch of stuff that is included within the Jetpack that are not going to do much for you at all.
The fact that Jetpack requires you to have a WordPress account means that your site is connecting out to WordPress every single hit, and that can really be a problem.’
John is recommending it, but WA says it is close to toxic. Who is right, or are both right and WA has a specific problem not found elsewhere? I do not have the technical knowledge to judge, but assumed that John knows what he is doing. Otherwise, a number of affiliates would have encountered serious problems. Maybe, we are not going to do operations that WA clients do.
I stayed with WA and moved on to another month’s training without further problem.
