A warning story:
David Perdew (US):
My phone rang this morning and it was
an 804 (Florida) number.
I didn’t recognize the number so I
didn’t answer – which is usually the
case with me.
I get a ton of spam /
scam phone calls so neither my wife nor
I answer calls from numbers we don’t
recognize.
But this one was different:
“I’m looking for David Perdew. This is
Tom Livingstone from the Escambia
County Sheriff’s office. It’s
imperative that we speak with you
immediately.”
Ugh. Who do I know that’s in trouble
now, I thought.
So, I hit redial. And it went directly
to a simple response”Leave a message.”I didn’t.
Then I Googled Escambia County
Sheriff’s dept and called that number –
a different number by the way.
And
they’d never heard of Tom Livingstone
or that phone number he left.
And they told me it was probably a scam
and to ignore it. I did.
So, what did I do right there?
I checked out a resource and asked an
expert to validate my concern.
A simple process that saved me money,
time and angst.
