Dear {!firstname_fix},
Foreigners who need a Russian
accounting firm. This was my first use of LinkedIn.
It came to an end (unless you know of
somebody we can help) when LinkedIn was blocked for almost 2 years in Russia. During that period, 80% of the
Russian-based expatriots left the country. The oil price fell, the Rouble fell and
most ex-pats have $-priced contracts. This doubled their cost to local (Rouble))
firms, so contracts were not renewed. The expats are my potential clients, so
this hit hard. My connections continue to grow and
have reached over 13,000 without further action from me.
About 20 people a week connect with me
mostly to use my contacts to build their lists. A new opportunity came when I started
to absorb Mark Wickersham’s work on pricing for accountants.
I promoted his work and products
through my email letters and blog. This became very popular and
I continue to introduce more people to his work. In LinkedIn, I found that there is at
least one group of bookkeepers who often have pricing problems.
I would receive emails from LinkedIn
identifying new threads. Free traffic is mostly based on contact
through social media (which I had previously totally ignored) .
So, I decided to respond to a few
threads, when pricing was an issue and gave links to Mark’s work.
I found most of the threads very
negative, though a few professionals provided help.
Most were complaining that they had set
up in business only to find that their prices were undercut by novices and automation. They seemed to think that, by moaning,
competition would disappear. There was little sign that they were going to add more value to their clients to increase income.
I posted to the threads and when my
post disappeared at the top of the page, I would write another one. Over 2,000 readers clicked my links to
Mark’s products, so I was pleased that I was offering solutions. The problem is that absolutely none of
them bought anything. I checked with Mark and he confirmed that his system was working. (I had secured sales with him before, so the system had worked for me.) On LinkedIn, I had attracted problem
solvers, but not buyers. LinkedIn no longer sends me emails
identifying new threads from that group. Maybe they have moved onto other things.
You are advised by gurus to post 4
times a day on social media to collect free traffic. How you do that with a day job is
unclear to me. The internet is critical for my lecturing
work, providing me with a global reach for
material and news. Social media has much less interest
for me. I rarely wish to contact the world, just specific people. My LinkedIn experience has, so far,
avoided its paid services. Maybe my next campaign will include those. In case you missed this:
I have a request :
Please make time to view this
free webinar from my mentor,
