Internet Marketing – What is a Sales Funnel? -1

A decade ago, most IM vendors
were selling individual products,
then returning to buyers
with new offers, using
separate emails.
Finding potential buyers is
expensive in money,
time or both. They need to
‘know, like, and trust’ you before
they are prepared to buy.
Starting selling with a $10 book,
for example, identifies a need to
be able to sell higher-priced
products to make better profits.
A fast-food outlet sells you food
and immediately asks whether
you would like to buy a drink
as well.
A good sales person
will do the same.
The second product
is an ‘upsell’ in IM.
Various IM folks also wanted
to offer a second product
immediately, while the
buyer is in the mood.
They recognized that if
100 buyers accepted
their first offer, less would
buy the second offer and
even less would purchase t
he third offer.
However, extra sales
(even from the reduced
number of clients) are profitable.
Somebody called this process
a sales funnel.
As you progressed the
number dwindled.
For a funnel to work, it needs a
suitable range of products,
offered in a logical, attractive
sequence.
The design is a mix of artistry,
previous experience and testing.
