Selling IM products can provide
entertainment, but others can do so much more. My wife, Elena and her mum, Nadia,
needed back massages. Along came a young man, Dmitry, to
provide them and resolve their pain. He is from the Ukraine and moved
to Moscow to find work.
He had no medical training,
but bought some videos and
taught himself massage.
For the low cost, he quickly applied
the techniques and has built a modest business, with recommendations from clients
(our family doctor recommended him).
So, somebody had created
some videos
and provided their skills visually. It was profitable to the creator and
provided a cost-effective start to Dmitry’s career and pain relief for Elena and Nadia. His alternatives would have been
books, which cannot transfer such knowledge so effectively, or lessons which would have been more expensive.
We all want to offer value to
our clients. Not every sale results in somebody starting a career, but this one did. It makes me more aware to think
more about the value I offer. Technology helps me in my teaching
day job in Russia. The internet is my global library, with access to news and materials that would have taken me weeks to assemble earlier. It also enables you and me to set
up and run online businesses with a global clientele. It is easy to become dispirited
(I do!) when building an online business. Then, it is time to
remember that we have opportunities unimaginable for previous generations. I remember my late father
doing his best to make money well into his retirement, writing articles on a basic computer and posting them. The internet was not there
to help him; it IS here to help us. If you missed it:
